The Human Rights Campaign

"HRC seeks to improve the lives of LGBT Americans by advocating for equal rights and benefits in the workplace, ensuring families are treated equally under the law and increasing public support among all Americans."

The Human Rights Campaign is arguably the most popular activist group for the advocation of human rights in the LGBT community. The HRC has been in action since 1980 and is the largest civil rights organization dedicated to Gay Rights. The symbol of the HRC, the equal sign, has become an important symbol for equality in the LGBT community.

The site gives information on the history of the organization, how you can get involved, issues, resources, local outlets, support groups, and facts and statistics about the LGBT community.

Amnesty International: Human Rights Don't Discriminate

The headline of Amnesty International's Gay Rights page states "Amnesty International believes that all people, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, should be able to enjoy the full range of human rights, without exception."

However, people around the world are abused for their sexual orientation every day. Amnesty international believes that by highlighting and focusing on said abuse, people can take action to address this violence and discrimination towards members of the LGBT community.  Amnesty's activists are working to protect the basic human right to dignity in the LGBT community.

The site has resources for how to get involved, LGBT news updates, rights issues, and the progress of bills and legislation regarding gay rights.

Public Agenda Issue Guide

The Public Agenda Issue Guide is a portal for information on a number of social issues. For each said issue, there is a "guide" or a fact sheet, that gives the reader an overview of facts on a given topic.

The issue guide for Gay Rights states in the Overview "For much of American history, indeed, for much of world history, homosexuality has been a taboo subject. Often, it has been considered a crime in and of itself. Yet today, millions of gay and lesbian Americans are not only open about their sexuality, they are campaigning for new laws which they say would grant them the same rights accorded to heterosexuals, including the right to marry. Same-sex marriage, now legal in five states and the District of Columbia, as well as seven nations around the world, places gay and lesbian relationships on a legal par with traditional families for the first time in Western history."

The guide gives information on employment discrimination, public views, chief concerns, bills and legislation, and what to consider.
